Owner and Instructor Mark Male
Farriery isn’t just a trade to me—it’s a calling.
As a second-generation farrier, I began my career in 1996 under the guidance of master farrier Carl Biddle. From the very beginning, I developed a deep respect for the craft and a commitment to continuous learning and growth.
After nearly three decades in the industry, countless hours of continuing education, and years spent mentoring others, I saw a need for something more: a school built on strong fundamentals, real-world experience, and genuine mentorship.
Today, I serve as Vice President of the International Association of Professional Farriers and as a Certified Farrier, continuing to invest in the advancement of the trade and those entering it.
Iron Sharpens Iron Farrier School was created to do exactly that—equip students not just with skills, but with the discipline, character, and confidence to build a lasting career.
This isn’t just about learning a trade—it’s about building a future.

Instructor Leif Thompson
I attended Meredith Manor in waverly wv completing the 9 month farrier science program in 2015/2016. I am IAPF-1 credentialed with more credentials on the way as I never stop learning! I have 10 years of experience as a farrier running Forging Forward Llc. I started in Ohio/West Virginia focusing on western disciplines. Moved to Florida in 2019 to further my career, exposure in the industry and to get away from the snow. Now I shoe a variety of disciplines from barrel horses to high end dressage and everything in between. In my off time you can try to find me in the mangroves or offshore fishing and diving.
I enjoy helping students learn the craft from the hoof up. I aim to make learning approachable while still emphasizing the importance of precision, safety, and good horsemanship. I love the work I do and I wake up excited to go to work every day!
